Who I Am

Professional Therapist Smiling Wearing White Shirt in Urban Environment

Before I was a therapist, I was a client. I sat in many rooms vulnerable, hurting, scared, telling my story to the wise therapist with a kind smile and sorting through the pieces of my own story on my personal path of healing and growth. My own journey through darkness and struggle has shaped my clinical approach and continues to inform my work. Being a therapist is one of the greatest honors of my life. I am continually humbled by the opportunity to witness and support my clients in their courageous efforts to understand, heal, and grow beyond the difficulties they experience. After all of the hard things they have been through, my clients still take the risk to trust me, open up, and try to do the thing they are not sure they can actually do. I feel fortunate to get to be a part of such incredible work every day.

Apart from being a therapist, I am an ever evolving human being. I am a Northwest native, I drink a questionable amount of coffee, I appreciate a good meal, and I am learning to play the guitar. I spend my evenings and weekends attempting to simultaneously reign in and appreciate the chaos that is life with a partner and two little ones.

My Credentials & Experience

I hold a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree from Antioch University, a CACREP accredited program. Major coursework included individual counseling, group counseling, counseling theories and skills, human development, social and cultural diversity, crisis counseling, understanding addiction, diagnosing mental health disorders, assessment of mental health disorders, human sexuality, and gender affirming care. I am registered with the Mental Health & Addiction Certification Board of Oregon as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor – I (CADC-I) and with the National Board for Certified Counselors as a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I also have a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and Psychology from Portland State University. As a Professional Counselor Associate, I am currently supervised by Selin Strait, LPC, CHT, and Tever Nickerson, LPC. I have direct experience working with adolescents with eating disorders in a residential setting as an intern as well as experience working with adults with eating disorders in an outpatient setting. I completed an internship and worked for three years in a residential and outpatient setting with adults with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. I have worked with patients who struggle with a variety of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, interpersonal conflict, parenting stress, grief and loss, and navigating life transitions.

My Approach

I see my job as a therapist as being a supporter of your work to know, grow, and use your own wisdom and strength to move toward your goals. I am also aware of how power, privilege, and oppression can affect our work together. I invite discussion around this and seek to lessen the impact of any imbalance. My goal is to empower you as the client to have choice and autonomy in our work together. My approach is a combination of multiple methods. I tend to think about cases through the lens of biopsychosocial, existential, attachment, and person-centered theories. In terms of skills, I lean toward dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). More importantly, I like to see what works for you as an individual and adjust the ideas and skills I bring into our sessions to fit your needs.
